What is laser?

K-Laser

K-Laser Therapy, or "photobiomodulation", is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects.  These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling.

BioFlex

BioFlex Laser therapy is the use of monochromatic light emission from a low intensity laser diode or an array of high intensity Super Luminous Diodes to treat musculoskeletal injuries, chronic and degenerative conditions and to heal wounds.  The light source is placed in contact with the skin allowing the photon energy to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with various intracellular biomolecules resulting in the restoration of normal cell function and enhancement of the body's healing processes.

By affecting and reversing the offending pathology at the cellular level, laser therapy optimizes the restoration of injured tissues to normal function, thereby relieving painful symptoms.  The beneficial effects of laser therapy are cumulative over the course of a series of treatments.

Which Laser is Best?

Laser therapy devices being used in Canada today range in power output from 5 milliwatts to 12,000 milliwatts.  Class 3a lasers are 5 milliwatts, Class 3b range from 5 to 500 milliwatts, and a Class 4 laser is any greater than 500 milliwatts (or half a Watt).

The Meditech Bioflex Laser system is a class 3b laser and is rated at 200 milliwatts.

The K-Series Class 4 therapy laser has power adjustable from 0.1 to 12 watts (12,000 milliwatts).  The adjustable power allows for a wide range of treatment protocols.  Class 4 laser therapy delivers a therapeutic dosage to a large volume of tissue in a shorter period of time.

In our clinic we have been using the BioFlex laser for over 8 years with very good success with a wide variety of conditions.  Since purchasing the new K-Laser, we can now offer shorter treatment times to our patients which can be a benefit for some people with limited time in their schedule.

They are both excellent systems, and you as the patient have a choice which system you would like to try.

Due to the high cost of the technology, there is a $10 extra charge for the use of the K-Laser, over the BioFlex system.

Please note:  Our clinic prides itself on keeping treatment costs of laser therapy very affordable for everyone, as many clinics are charging 40-50% more.
